Description

These traditional waffles can be served up a hundred different ways, but maple syrup and butter never go out of style.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted plus additional for greasing waffle iron
  • Dash of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: Combine milk, egg, butter and vanilla in another bowl.
  3. Mix wet & dry: Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring just to combine. Do not over-mix. Allow batter to rest for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Prep iron: Meanwhile, heat waffle iron. Grease iron, ladle in batter and cook according to manufacturer’s directions.
  5. Cook waffles & serve: For my iron, I scoop about ½ cup batter per waffle. Repeat process with remaining batter. Serve with warm maple syrup and room temperature butter, if desired. Enjoy.
