Italian Fig Cookies

Who's Ready for Christmas Cookies?

Cuccidati are Italian Fig Cookies traditionally served during Christmas. They’re stuffed with a delicious mixture of dried figs, nuts, honey and citrus, and topped with glaze and sprinkles.

Ingredients

You'll need flour, baking powder, salt, butter, an egg, dried figs, honey, walnuts, lemon, cinnamon, Marsala, vanilla, powdered sugar and milk

Combine dry ingredients, cut in butter, add egg, vanilla and milk. Shape into a square and chill for 2-3 hours.

Step 1: Make the dough.

Toast the walnuts. Grind the nuts in a food processor. Add figs, honey, lemon zest, Marsala and vanilla, and grind into a paste.

Step 2: Make the filling.

Roll out the dough and trim into rectangles. Add filling across center of dough. Roll dough over filling. Cut into cookies.

Step 3: Form the cookies.

Bake for about 15 minutes in a 350F oven. Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Spoon glaze over cookies and top with sprinkles.

Step 4: Bake and glaze cookies.
