These traditional waffles can be served up a hundred different ways, but maple syrup and butter never go out of style. I love to freeze any extras, defrost them in the oven, and crisp them up in a sauté pan.

Description
These traditional waffles can be served up a hundred different ways, but maple syrup and butter never go out of style.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted plus additional for greasing waffle iron
- Dash of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
- Mix wet ingredients: Combine milk, egg, butter and vanilla in another bowl.
- Mix wet & dry: Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring just to combine. Do not over-mix. Allow batter to rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Prep iron: Meanwhile, heat waffle iron. Grease iron, ladle in batter and cook according to manufacturer’s directions.
- Cook waffles & serve: For my iron, I scoop about ½ cup batter per waffle. Repeat process with remaining batter. Serve with warm maple syrup and room temperature butter, if desired. Enjoy.
